Today we celebrate Juneteenth, the commemoration of the end of Slavery in the United States. This day has been celebrated in black communities since 1865. We stand with those communities, recognizing that this will not be the typical Juneteenth celebration given the illumination of past and present racial injustices in the United States.
In the wake of a series of racial injustices, Folsom Labs is taking a stance to unequivocally support Black Lives Matter and anyone fighting for civil rights or marginalized people. Today, we are committing to support these communities and organizations through both internal and external efforts.
We are expanding our Diversity and Inclusion initiatives to include open discussions and book clubs focused around social injustices and civil rights. We’re also encouraging employees to take personal time to focus on supporting the community, education, and peaceful activism. We hope this will give employees time to learn from one another and reflect on how to move forward.
This month we will be reading “How To Be An Antiracist” - Abram X. Kendi. We encourage you to read with us.
If you are interested in donating to charities supporting civil rights but are unsure of where to begin the ActBlue portfolio is a great starting point.
Folsom Labs has taken the extra step to match employee donations to social justice and civil rights organizations. Here is a list of some of the charities Folsom Labs employees have donated to:
Black Lives Matter
We the Protesters
National Lawyers Guild of SF
Anti-Police Terror Project
Every day we strive to stand in unity for all communities of people and today we express that unity by celebrating the black community and their efforts to obtain freedom, justice, and equality.
